Overview

The ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon, a graduate school, closely associates teaching, research, education and the diffusion of knowledge to achieve excellence. It sets particularly demanding standards in four key areas: the development of in-depth academic knowledge in the exact sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences (from Bachelor`s to PhD); interdisciplinarity; innovation; the development of links with the socio-economic sector and international networks.

Mission Statement

The ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon is a highly selective higher education institution Bachelor, Master, PhD dedicated to research and teaching, with worldwide connections. It is committed to the development and diffusion of knowledge, thus contributing to the progress of science and society. It gathers in a single institution departments of exact sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences. While inheriting a long tradition of research and training- dating from the 19th century- it seeks to develop along 4 strategic objectives: interdisciplinarity, digital innovation, internationalization and interaction with society. The ENS de Lyon trains the actors of higher education and research, and prepares its graduates for high level careers in public and private sectors. Its students are provided with an education combining high quality courses with the most recent research findings, active tutoring, internship-based professionalizing training, individual learning plans. Entrance is at final-year undergraduate, Masters and PhD level; degrees are awarded in conjunction with other establishments within the University of Lyon. A high proportion of ENS de Lyon students continue to careers in research and higher education. The ENS de Lyon also fosters creativity and initiative in all aspects of learning. Special emphasis is placed on research. It houses major research groups run with the CNRS, INSERM, INRA and INRIA, France's national bodies for scientific research.To broaden its students horizons, the institution offers them the opportunity to experience cutting-edge research in its 23 laboratories and partner institutions, in France and abroad. Students benefit from the best learning conditions: research facilities, technological resource centers, funding opportunities, a rich campus life all in one of the EU`s leading region.
