Overview

Auburn University is a land, sea and space grant university of 25,000 students. Consistently ranked among the top 50 public universities in U.S. rankings, Auburn is located in the small town of Auburn, Ala., where in 2012 the campus was ranked fourth among the 10 colleges with the best quality of life. Auburn has 13 colleges and schools, including its graduate school, more than 250,000 alumni, and offers more than 140 programs of study.

Mission Statement

Auburn University's mission is defined by its land-grant traditions of service and access. The University serves citizens of Alabama through its instructional, research and outreach programs and prepares citizens to respond successfully to the challenges of a global economy. The University provides traditional and non-traditional students broad access to educational resources and draws heavily upon new and emerging technologies. Auburn offers high-quality undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. The University emphasizes broad, superior undergraduate education, while providing high-quality graduate and professional programs in areas of need and importance to the state and beyond. Auburn continues to compete nationally to attract a faculty distinguished by commitment to teaching and achievements in research. The primary focus of research is directed to the solution of problems and the development of knowledge and technology important to the state, nation and quality of life of Alabama citizens. The University emphasizes areas of strength and focuses available resources in those areas of research and doctoral study that are, or have the potential to develop into nationally and internationally recognized centers of excellence. Extension and outreach programs affect the lives of citizens in the state. The University will maintain the strengths of traditional outreach programs and will increasingly involve the broader University in outreach that responds to the changing needs of society.
